"The sleeping man seldom gains victory."

“The sleeping man seldom gains victory.” THE SAGA OF THE PEOPLE OF VOPNAFJORD, CH. 17

In context, “sleeping” is being idle. More particularly, here, an expedition planned by Thorkel has been cancelled by Thorkel himself. Thorkel made much of his plans, spoke of them often, provided them with deliberative detail, but in the end he chooses to “sleep,” to remain idle, and his kinsman Helgi Droplaugarson  offers the aforementioned wisdom: “The sleeping man seldom gains victory.”

How many of us are bold courageous planners who become “sleepy “as the day of action arrives?

Vaknaðu! Farðu![Old Norse]

Tubunitu! Miar! [Comanche]

Wake up! Go! [The language of many a sleeper.]
